Shooting models for Miss Fashion 2014
The year is almost over, time to look back on what we accomplished or better tried to accomplish. I must a have shot dozens of models for fashion, lifestyle and glamour. The shoots that I favored the most are without any doubt the shoots for “Miss Fashion 2014”.
Miss fashion is a none profit organization run by Liesbeth Bruneel and Carin Nuyts. The competition is open to female models from all over Belgium. They compete in multiple disciplines. Each province has its own local election for the “Best Girl in town”. Girls that pass will compete in the grand finale. At the end “Miss Fashion 2014” and “Young Miss Fashion 2014” was selected.
This year the honors were for Stephanie Ballet as “Miss fashion 2014”, accompanied by “Miss Young Fashion 2014” Romy Meiresonne.
I was more then pleased when Miss Fashion offered me to shoot the portfolio’s for the two provinces (OVL-WVL).
Models are free to select a photographer of choice. I had the pleasure to work with Femke, Jeany, Brenda, Charline, Stephanie, Romy, Kimberly, Evelyn, Nikita, Jana, Karolien,Mandy and Larissa. It has always been my intend to make the very best out of each shoot. We have been shooting in the Flashsplash Studio and on location. Below a short overview of the shoots
Femke: Classical studio shoot
A pretty young ginger head, rather quiet but a great model to shoot with. Being a rookie is not always that easy. Never the less she did a great shoot. At the end we decided to select a few heads shots .
Jeany Beeckmans: Wedding dress on location
Shooting in the studio is a lot of fun, however for this shoot we used the golfclub in Worteghem. Jeany was dressed in a creamy white wedding dress. One of our favorite shots was the headshot with a veil and the Piano shot.
Brenda Dezitter: Fifties on location
A lovely Brunette who arranged a shoot at the fifties store in the Nederlands. We took off early in the morning for a long drive. The fifties store is a great place for fifties mobilia . Shooting was not easy inside the store, as it was packet to the roof with stuff. One of the favorite shots is the Coca Cola Girl and the Juke box.Shooting on location is very demanding; on the way back we stopped for a Whopper. That was so much fun.
Charline Debacker: Guns studio – Lingerie on location – Car on location
A long ledged blonde beauty, pleasant and always up for a practical joke. Charline had multiple sessions.
Guns & Knifes, a great theme with lots of preparation. The shoot took place on set in the studio. It was kind of fun to collect the guns, create the smoke . A great atmosphere with lots of fun. One of the shots was used later with a different background.
Lingerie is a difficult topic that requires a level of trust between the model and the photographer. Charline arranged the Sun studio at the coast. What I do remember is that it was freezing cold in the studio. Goosebumps and blue flowers are your main enemy . Never the less Charline did a great shoot.
Hot Rod, a car shoot , a difficult arrangement as we had to move all the materials, the car (Glen Noyelle) and model to an abandoned village. Sneaking in and out of abandoned buildings has a certain level of healthy stress , especially while the police was patrolling .
Stephanie Ballet (Miss Fashion 2014), Halloween shoot.
The Miss Fashion organization requested a shoot with the theme “ Halloween” .
Stephanie, the Miss fashion Queen was the star of the shoot, a pure beauty. A great team to work with Celina (Make up artist) , Michael (behind the scene), Ann (Styling). The combination of a Gotic style and some creepy attributes made it into a real fun shoot. The dresses were provided by Boothill (Gent).
Romy Meiresone (Young Miss Fashion 2014), Halloween shoot.
Romy Meirsonne Young Miss Fashion 2014 teamed up with Stephanie for the Halloween shoot. This very young lady is a very promising talent; she acted as a full pledged model. Creating fantastic shots and poses. It is a stunning model with a great look, character and self-esteem. I am sure we will hear more from Romy.
Kimberly ; Wedding dress on location.
This young lady opted for a wedding dress shoot in Brugge, not an easy shoot especially at mid –day with blazing sun and a sharp northern wind.
Evelyn Lindskog; Studio shoot – Black Swan.
This class full blonde has a very pleasing look and character; we opted to make a few headshots in the studio besides a Black Swan shoot in the tower of the house. She certainly has a great expression and was easy to work with. It is always fun to add a special shot and pose into a series. So we did, the guitar shot.
Nikita van Damme:fashion shoot on location (Ename)
A very special model, with a unique will and character. Shooting with a model that is at the same time photographer and model was kind of a challenge. Never the less Nikita played here role as model and refrained from the photographer role. The shoot took place at the provincial museum at Ename. A great place. My most favorite shot is “ Jump”.
Jana Anfimova; train shoot.
What a great model to work with, I picked here up at the train station in Brugge before we set of to the train museum in Maldegem. I had rented the museum for the shoot. Jana didn’t need much make-up as she wanted to look a bit dirty as if she was part of the railroad company. Not an issue, I picked up some dirt and cool and rubbed it on the pretty face. Shooting amongst the trains was kind of fun but very challenging, especially since I had no support team. Well done Jana.
Karolien Van Hauwermeiren; Rain and Rock shoot
This tall and beautiful blonde/brunette requested two special shoots. I always enjoy when the model knows what she wants. Setting up the rain shoot was not that easy, more so since it was winter and freezing cold. I arranged a set in the barn, a 4 by 4 meter plastic sheet and 5 cm deep filled up with ice-cold water. The rain was created with a sprinkler. I pored warm water over Karoline before she jumped in the ice-cold rain scene, just keep here warm and to make it look real. It was a quick in and out, with everything pre-arranged. In between the shots, a hot water food tub and a hot air blower. I got cold just looking at it. That is what I call a girl with balls.
Larissa Walther; Africa shoot
A beautiful and joyful young lady with attitude and character. A challenge to work with, but very rewarding. She selected “Africa” as a theme. I collected some attributes and created the requested scene. Larissa did very well and the result was stunning.
Mandy Vandevelde; Beauty shoot
A lovely and tall beauty . The intend of the shoot ” keep it simple”. Mandy has natural charms and requires not much to make a shoot into a success. Shooting Mandy was a pleasure although she was a rookie , she did very well with so little .
I would like to thank the models for their trust and. It was a very hectic and busy period, you can all be proud on the work you have done. Not everybody can win, but each one of you is a winner in his own way.
Stephanie & Romy, thanks for shooting with me and enjoy the titel as Miss Fashion and Young Miss Fashion.
Liesbeth Bruneel, thanks for your trust and taking care of the models.
I am looking forward to the next election, and hope to work with all of you again.
